History

Australia Test cricket history

Australia won the inaugural Test in 1877 and has been a constant of the format ever since, from the Golden Age through Bradman's era to the modern game.

The Ashes, born of a mock obituary in 1882, remains the defining rivalry of Australian Test cricket and the frame through which most Australia v England contests are read.

Melbourne holds a particular place in that story: the first Test, the Centenary Test and the Boxing Day tradition all belong to the MCG.
